Shanghai Day 18

Normal day again! Nothing much for today but still feel like jotting it down here. Basically just university and nothing else. Hehe… IMG_4309Went to the tutors’ dorms and tried to do work. But… yeah should have guessed it, I did not do any work other than teaching them how to go into Facebook using the software. HAHAHA…

I got some chocolates too. But shhh… the one who gave me says others should not know. Others should be the tutors, not my friends. Oh well, nevermind. Christie was there too because Wang Ling was helping her out with her Chinese which she need to complete for her presentation.IMG_4311Was busy preparing my presentation after coming back and though I finished early, I slept only at 4am because I was talking with another friend. Sometimes its sad to know that shit happens. But all we can do is not care too much. Time will prove everything as long as its not lies =D Not wanting to dig the past, I would just want to jot down things that ran in my mind not long ago. I am not depressed already and totally felt its the best decision ever that I come over to Shanghai. This is my second time having a room mate and she is awesome possum =D (The photo below is NOT my room mate =P)IMG_4315And the company I am getting here is totally awesome too =) We are being so open to one another. Ok, mainly is because I am a very open person. And its has been such a long time that I felt so at ease with people (non-family) who live so near me. I am also very happy that though we see one another so often, we do not fight or whatever. It is good being open and direct. Makes everyone happy =) Everyone here basically makes me smile, those who are living with me, opposite me, beside me and in the university. Even some of those friendly chaps along the streets! =D *happy*

Money spent for Day 18:

Total spent = RMB 38.00

Shanghai Day 19

It was supposed to snow today but it did not =( But its really way colder and windier now.

Oh, a random fact. I have been eating tong yuen =) Three days in a row already. First time I got one sesame, one red bean and one meatball (which I did not know it was – when I first saw it, I thought it was peanut but it turned out to be salty meat ball *yucks*) On second day I wanted to get two red bean and two sesame but they only had sesame. So I got four sesame. But tonight I got two red bean and two sesame =) YUMMMM… but I am still missing the plain ones in ginger sugary soup! =(

And this morning I suddenly felt a really sharp pain on my right hand ring finger =( Really bad pain and when I was at university already around noon time, I noticed that it turned blue black around the first finger joint. And I think a blood vessel there burst? Damn painful =(IMG_4330-edited Today we had presentation on the second seminar paper and I did worse than ever cause I did not get to present my things within five minutes. And apparently I could not memorise the things I want to say and hence it was more like I was reading =(

Nevermind (self comfort). Just concentrate on the exam. Final is on Friday and its basically studying all the six topics within one night =.= Wish me luck people =D

Money spent for Day 19:

Total spent = RMB 39.20

Playing way too much,

The one who should really stop playing =(

Shanghai Day 16

Had an early morning in Lu Xun Park again. It was raining yet we went out.IMG_4142The park is still as pretty but with a lot less people than the first time when we went there.      IMG_4138  The colours changed but still very pretty. IMG_4123Just noticed that there is an art museum but it was not open. =(IMG_4127Walked around the park.IMG_4122The others actually wanted to go for a jog whereas I, wanted to see the Bird Hill! I was conned =(IMG_4118I think it was just a place to have a clearer view of the birds rather than a place with exotic birds. HAHAIMG_4155 Thereafter we met up with Wang Ling. She is a total fun girl to be with. She treat us to breakfast and then we went back to my room to have fun together. IMG_4161 WHAT FUN?! We did work alright? HAHAHA… IMG_4168 We totally forgot about lunch till 2.30pm! IMG_4177 IMG_4178 IMG_4183 IMG_4184 IMG_4185We had a really late dinner and by evening Wang Ling left. She did not get to join us for dinner cause she is really busy and had to do work.IMG_4199Thereafter we went for dinner together with Christie. Right after dinner, Christie came to my room and she got hooked onto Hana Yori Dango. LOL

Money spent for Day 16:

Shanghai Day 15

This morning started early for me. I am forced to because I failed to wake up last night to do work. Chee Sian some more said to come early at 8am but did not! Until I sms him baru he come so I also laze in the bed till he come =.= Ok, cannot blame Chee Sian. Its my own fault LOL IMG_3962 But in the end did not do much things =( Then went out to play! No regrets. Will work hard and sleep less. LOL.IMG_3969This is what we call play hard and work hard. But this one applies to me only lah! The others basically got most of their work done already one.IMG_3967 We went out quite late at around 1pm to get lunch in the area near Hong Kou Football Stadium. We walked thorough Lu Xun Park to get there. Not exactly a short cut but no complaints…  IMG_3970 That park is really lovely! Spent a little time there and got to the other side of the park where the area is. HeheIMG_3990This is the first time we actually explore that new area.IMG_3972Walked so long yet did not find a suitable place for food.IMG_3984When I saw a shop selling dog meat, made me feel so sick =( I am not exactly a pet lover but please, EAT DOG? TT IMG_3973Finally we settled for a small shop selling noodles. Just very normal. I ordered something with pork but somehow keep on thinking about the dog TTIMG_3975What Chee Sian ordered was bad. LOL. Ok, maybe those who know how to eat will find it decent but I totally could not take it. A sip of the soup make me want to vomit! =( IMG_3979 IMG_3980 IMG_3981After the lunch, we walked to the opposite road which is less than 30 seconds away, to get to where Lu Xun old residential place in Shanghai was. Need to pay RMB8! =.=IMG_3977But then I decided to go in myself since the others did not want to. I figured I am already there, why not just go? I cannot take picture at all inside. Some more got a lady who went in with me to describe and explain things to me. Other than her, got cameras =.= So strict and hence no pictures.

According to the lady, only 4 to 5 people can visit the place each time. Its three floors high but then very simple.IMG_3985First was to his living room and the dining room in first floor. The things were really old. They were donated by his wife to be replaced in the place so that people can visit it. Then I was curious about his son. According to the lady, his son is now 81 years old and stays in Beijing. He used to visit the house often but now its the grandson who does so. The grandson lives in Duo Lun Road which we went to later in the afternoon.IMG_4068The second floor was Lu Xun’s room where most of his writings were done. He also died on his bed in there. When the lady told me this I felt so sad =( And on the same level, got a toilet which is quite big but very very very very very simple and old. Well, everything is old!IMG_4001Then on the third floor is his son room. The grandest of all. It was said that because Lu Xun got a son at a very old age, so he treasures him a lot. Thus the son got the best of everything. When he died, his son was just seven years old. =(IMG_4020On the same level (or was it the second level?), got a secret room which is not so secret at all where Lu Xun helped out those politicians or whoever in trouble by hiding them in there. He is so nice lahIMG_4079Then we went on to wander around the streets and seeing things. Not much shopping done.IMG_4066That is because we mainly did not plan to get clothes or whatever back. WINTER ones. Not suitable for us but Khoo wanted a pair of running shoes!IMG_3992Then we found a post office. So happy! =D And we spent some time in there =)IMG_4088Nothing much after that. Just wandering the streets. And took loads of picture until Chee Sian and Khoo complain non stop.IMG_3974Boys are always boys. HMPH. HAHAHAHA… they will not regret once they get to see the pictures and reminisce the times in Shanghai with us =)IMG_4094More pictures taken during the walk around =) IMG_4005IMG_4023 IMG_4029 IMG_4040 IMG_4048 IMG_4049 IMG_4056 IMG_4062Ok time to get some sleep and then wake up early to go to Lu Xun Park again =D Hope to go to the post office again!!! hehehe…

Money spent for Day 15:

Total spent = RMB 159.80

Shanghai Day 12

Classes and tutorial only. Nothing much today. Life is getting mundane eh? Nah… I do not think so. But it is undeniable that today everyone is super tired. I have good explanations myself but the others? Not sure =S IMG_3937 IMG_3935Assignments, seminar paper, presentation and essay make our life “lively”. I motivate myself by all the places/trips that I can go during the weekends =)

And my tutor is really superb. Always looking forward to tutorial. =) I did not get to have my work done last night because I was doing that super long blog post. So this shall be a really (comparatively) short one.

Blaze is out of town and I am having the room to myself this weekend. But I won’t be in the room alone much I think since I have to go do work with the others. Hopefully tomorrow I get to explore the other part of this town near the Hong Kou Football Stadium =)

Then Sunday I plan to go to Lu Xun Park again and spend the afternoon learning how to knit. Yes! KNIT! Been ages I wanted to learn it. Now I have the chance =D

So the deal for wanting to enjoy is to get real and do work. Before that, let me share some pictures =)IMG_3939Today in class we talked about three phrases. to differentiate them, the teacher told a story…IMG_3940I love that story. Its funny =P Those who cannot read Chinese, get someone to help you out =P Or you can post a comment there and I shall reply =DIMG_3929My lunch. They use peanuts instead of cashew nuts because cashew nuts are more expensive here in China. =( I miss cashew nuts with chicken =(IMG_3942My dinner. Healthy big portion. ITS DUCK. My first duck dish in Shanghai =)IMG_3949Look at the wax covering the apple in China. Please do scrap the fruits before eating them (I still think having the skin is good and is better for health even though there is wax!)

Saw cute RABBITS in cages! White ones for RMB35 while the black one for RMB60. The black one would not grow big!! Suddenly wish to have it but then I would not be able to bring it back. I do not even know if I would take care of it well or not =PIMG_3931 Oh! And do you know? They have COLA flavoured Mentos here!!! Not too bad but I do not take much candies daily anyway. Just today I feel so sleepy =.= IMG_3932 And what a waste of resources. They packed double layers! =SIMG_3933Money spent for Day 12:

Total spent = RMB 34.00

Must do work,

The one who is really determined to do her work tonight =D

Shanghai Day 11

FIRST TIME RAINING IN SHANGHAI (as in since I arrived lah… DUH!)IMG_3537Anyway, nothing much today. Classes and tutorial. Three tutors (the middle one is my tutor. The one with her hand on my face is Li Ying and I do not know who the other one is but she has a sweet voice.)IMG_3535And Christie joined the picture…IMG_3536Here… show you a picture of one of my two lecturers. She was not teaching but then came to collect our seminar paper. Dressed so nice… must ask for a picture lah… =PIMG_3541But at night we went to “English Corner” where we can get to know Chinese native speakers who are majoring in English in SISU. I got to know this very sweet and cute girl called Tina…IMG_3551I also got to know some other people but did not camwhore with them. Pai seh lah… LOL. After that, we (Khoo, Von Yi and I) walked under the drizzle to Carrefour despite so late already.IMG_3555Got CHOCOLATE pie from the McD nearby =)IMG_3557Yum Yum!

Money spent for Day 11:

Total spent = RMB 39.50

Shanghai Day 12

SUZHOU! =D Yeahhhhh… a day trip to Suzhou arranged by the university. Just for RMB60 paid earlier on, we got to visit four different places with the guidance of a tour guide and FREE BUFFET LUNCH! =D Too bad my battery ran out during the tour of the last place which is a very nice garden. Garden as in the olden day houses of the rich people… Ok, I will be running late for my classes if I type too much. Let the pictures say something =PIMG_3559The buses (three of them) for our trip =) Chee Sian was so crazy studious that he brought his book with him to revise.IMG_3568 - CopyThe bus trip was for two hours. I slept though LOLIMG_3571When I woke up, we arrived at a stop about half hour away from Suzhou. Something like a toilet stop and also for people to get something to fill their stomach.IMG_3572IMG_3573 - CopyOk, its more for the drivers to rest. Less accidents lah… But it was really big because China is preparing for the Expo in 2010.IMG_3695Once we got to Suzhou, it was much more prettier than Shanghai. The same thing was there was construction everywhere LOLIMG_3592When we got there, our first stop was Han Shan Si. A Buddhist temple. And our tour guide. YES! Our tour guide. A funny guy who calls himself Charlie Chen…IMG_3602Look at him with his “stick” – his dear black umbrella. LOL He is really funny but a good tour guide still =) IMG_3597 IMG_3598 IMG_3599IMG_3608IMG_3596IMG_3601IMG_3603  IMG_3616 IMG_3618 IMG_3620 IMG_3624 IMG_3625 IMG_3631 IMG_3632 IMG_3633 IMG_3638 IMG_3639 IMG_3645 Look at those silver-ish things on the roof. Those are coins. I do not know why people throw coins. Even those whom I know, they just throw because they saw there were coins there =.=IMG_3647 IMG_3649 IMG_3652 IMG_3654 IMG_3655 IMG_3656 Someone helped us take this picture. I had to put it up though cause its the only one with all of us in =(IMG_3657 Chee Sian’s photography skill is improving *proud* LOLIMG_3663 IMG_3664 IMG_3672 IMG_3673 IMG_3674 This is the floor tiles in the few places I visited. Ancient stuff. Hand built. Seriously, I find them so nice and I can even feel the effort as I walked on them. IMG_3675 IMG_3679 IMG_3683 IMG_3684 IMG_3685 IMG_3686These pictures do no justice to the things/sceneries I saw there. I love the tranquility there (minus all the tourists including me) Really an awesome place. After that we left for the Silk Factory.IMG_3766Got into a conference like room and was given a brief talk about the “Liang San Bo and Zhu Ying Tai” silkworms.IMG_3704The way the guy put the story out was so cheesy.IMG_3705He told stories of… How the silkworm in the cocoon must be killed so they do not elope and have lots of babies. How the double cocoon is Liang San Bo and Zhu Ying Tai =.=   IMG_3708 Only women worked in the factory. They have to work with hot water which causes their hands to be swollen most of the time. So sad =(IMG_3721They do this to extract the silk into raw silk threads. This worker here works with “Liang San Bo and Zhu Ying Tai” double cocoons.IMG_3733The double cocoons would have two silkworms in them.IMG_3734One male and one female. From the cocoon itself, she open them up and place seven layers over the small arch. From the small arch, she would transfer them to the big arch. Ten layers of the small one will form the one large arch one. The large arch one would be left to air dry and then used to make the comforter.IMG_3731IMG_3737 I even tried to loop the seven layered silk mesh over the large arch. It is not as easy as you think.IMG_3743But it you let it absorb enough water, it is not that hard =) IMG_3745 After the factory we went to the shops where I saw many not so unique but expensive silk products. But then there are one which I find really interesting but the colour coordination is not really to my taste. So I did not want to get them. This one is to place the wine bottle. It comes with a cover for the wine bottle. HOW CUTEIMG_3749Then saw some dolls but they were not really finely crafted =( Still quite nice. Those are Qing Dynasty Princesses.IMG_3751 IMG_3752 Then I saw a “Drivers’ Lounge” They must have had a lot of tourists brought over by the tour guides! Tee hee…IMG_3750Then there is the restaurant where we got the free BUFFET lunch! =D Ok, the food was so so only lah… but still, I am not complaining =PIMG_3753 IMG_3754 IMG_3755 IMG_3757Then we left for a moat which I do not know the name of. HAHA… its a place famous its land gates and water gates. VERY NICE SCENERY I MUST SAY =D I love it here <3IMG_3881 IMG_3782 IMG_3786 IMG_3787 IMG_3788 IMG_3790 IMG_3791 IMG_3792 IMG_3793 IMG_3795IMG_3797 IMG_3801 IMG_3802 IMG_3803 IMG_3804 IMG_3806 IMG_3807 IMG_3808 IMG_3809 IMG_3810 IMG_3817 IMG_3820IMG_3822 IMG_3829 IMG_3830 IMG_3831 IMG_3836IMG_3837 IMG_3839 IMG_3842 IMG_3843 IMG_3846IMG_3851IMG_3853IMG_3858 IMG_3861 IMG_3867 IMG_3868 IMG_3869 IMG_3870 IMG_3874 IMG_3875 IMG_3876 IMG_3877Then we went to a garden. Su Zhou is famous for its gardens – loads of them and we just visited one.IMG_3891The garden is actually the olden day houses of the rich people. Those which you would see in the movies or dramas of olden days. Very pretty and big indeed. Rich people house.IMG_3901IMG_3898IMG_3896Can you spot bats and a crane in the picture below? Its supposed to mean longevity.IMG_3906And rocks represent the properties of the people. The more they have, the richer they are. And I think their houses are really unique with good feng shui =)    IMG_3909 Too bad my camera ran out of battery. There were really more things that I wanted to share. Like how the in the olden days they have a place to rear tigers in their home, then the little cute bridges, the women’s room, the study room, the garden where the people would do performances using the traditional musical instruments and the dances etc… So much more!!!

I took more than 350 pictures already by then. So sad I could not take more. But I enjoyed the trip thoroughly =)

Suzhou is really nice. No car honking sounds. Everywhere you can see the signs showing not to honk. When we were on the way home, I was awoken by the car honks when we near Shanghai =.=IMG_3890 In Suzhou, even the telephone booths and bus stops are so unique =) I love Suzhou! Yes, that is really the bus stop!IMG_3886 Money spent for Day 12:

Total spent = RMB 25

Shanghai Day 13

Nothing much happened today. Been raining only. Warm but yet cold. Do not know how to define this exactly. But… yeah, just so warm and then so cold… and then warm again. Actually my joints been good just my knees still troubling me. Stiff at times but manageable =DIMG_3916 And my teacher today gave each of us Lindt chocolate =D So nice of her right? But too bad I do not really like milk chocolate. But one is good =) *smiley*  IMG_3915 Christie is just so funny! =D And she has SIX PACK. I am serious! I touched! (Sounds so wrong but still, really, she has got them!)IMG_3917And ok, this post is long enough. Time to do work!

Money spent for Day 13:

Total spent = RMB 11.50

Sorry to be so longwinded,

The one who has to prepare her presentation, 1.5K words essay and 1K words seminar paper. =(

6th and 7th December 2009

Shanghai Day 9

Was planning to update about Sunday yesterday itself but then had to really prioritize. I had to prepare for a presentation for today itself so I refrained from doing that.IMG_3371 We went to Lu Xun Park very early in the morning at 7am.IMG_3374It was supposed to be a roughly three hours thing but then we ended up being inside until about noon. Hehe… IMG_3375The park is really interesting. Even though it was still so early (to me! =P) yet there were so many people flooding the place. Mainly old people though.IMG_3376The park is really beautiful =)IMG_3378Filled with all kinds of people doing all sorts of things. Exercising, doing some physiotherapy-look-alike stuff, playing badminton, mahjong and cards, taichi, qi gong, martial arts, sword performance, writing with water, dancing, singing, playing musical instruemnts etc… IMG_3379IMG_3385 IMG_3387IMG_3393 IMG_3460IMG_3407IMG_3402IMG_3461IMG_3427IMG_3449IMG_3451Here, show you all some pictures of the park. EXTREMELY beautiful park, do you all not agree? =DIMG_3396 IMG_3400 IMG_3389IMG_3403 IMG_3405IMG_3414 IMG_3415IMG_3430 IMG_3432 IMG_3433 IMG_3444IMG_3457IMG_3469 IMG_3470IMG_3507We even found a book fair! Lucky us! I got some books myself. Such cheap prices. It would be a sin to not buy any! Sad that there was no suitable English books. Other wise I would have bought them! Many interest me but I know it would be no use to me if they were in Chinese. I simply do not have the determination to read them! =(IMG_3479After that, we planned to go home. But we were at the other side of the gate already. Decided to just walk out of it and see if we can know the way home. Out there was a very nice place =) One we never been to I think. (Do not count on my sense of direction – Khoo has been complaining) Saw this nice floral display with the ship. I wanted to go there but it is like a roundabout in the middle of the road. Traffic is bad. So we did not get to go over =(IMG_3480 Then saw FOOD. STREET FOOD. And finally got my “cong you bing” which was a bit salty but TOTALLY YUMMY! =D Cheap some more. I will get it the next time I see it again! =DIMG_3482 IMG_3483 IMG_3484 Then when we eventually plan to go home to get work done (presentation!!), we saw the Lu Xun Museum! It is FREE admission some more! How can I miss it? We are not supposed to take pictures in there. But, yeah… its me mah… so you all benefit lor… =PIMG_3486 IMG_3489 IMG_3491 IMG_3492 IMG_3497IMG_3500 IMG_3503 IMG_3504 Since we got home quite late (12pm plus instead of the supposed 10am), we stayed home to get work done. I think I did not get much done. Very unsatisfied but whatever… its over =PIMG_3511Then we only went out to have dinner across the road and walked around for a bit. Got “Napoleon” for breakfast. Totally not yummy at all =(  IMG_3513

Money spent for Day 9:

Total spent = RMB29.40

———————————–

Shanghai Day 10

Woke up early today to prepare for the presentation. I think this is the worst presentation I ever had because I could not really express what I have in mind =( My first ever Chinese presentation all screwed.IMG_3520It is such a shame that I am a Chinese who uses Chinese on a daily basis at home could not compare to the Chinese I am learning here. And could not even properly express my views =(IMG_3521But today class was much better. I felt sleepy soon after the presentations by everyone was over. Maybe I just could never concentrate in lectures =( How I hope I can be like the others. I wonder how they stay awake and pay so much attention in class. I slept enough. But just do not know why I feel sleepy and tired in class =( I was never like this in primary and secondary schools. Only during university [except first semester] =(

Anyway, the presentation all went alright but I am a little disappointed by inability to express myself in Chinese without looking at my draft speech =( Von Yi and Khoo did extremely well. I have their one recorded. Those who are interested in seeing how funny Khoo’s starting is can ask me to show them the video when we meet =PIMG_3526After the classes, we went to have dinner with my tutor and her friend, Li Ying =) Li Ying is super nice, cute nad warm. I regret not taking a picture with her =( Nevermind! Surely have next time =DIMG_3534IMG_3527 IMG_3528 IMG_3530IMG_3532 IMG_3533 IMG_3531And we got some fruits. Ok I got some fruits. I do not know why. Feel like so unhealthy. Haven’t been having fruits. My uncle wanted me to detox my skin by eating more fruits and vege. Haven’t been doing it well enough. But I do have yoghurt daily for my joints and bone =D *self-praise* HAHA

OWH! Did you all know? i successfully got myself one month internet! RMB80. Considered reasonable though the line is very unstable =(

Money spent for Day 10:

Total spent = RMB120.40

Time to do work,

The one who has to write a thousand Chinese characters to be handed up tomorrow =(

5th December 2009

Shanghai Day 8

SATURDAY! =D It was a full day but not too tiring one. It was planned that we do our work during day time and enjoy the evening out =) However we got to know our tutor was to have an exam on tai chi! Yes! They have tai chi exam! IMG_3138 So we went to university’s sports field. Do not know exactly the name of the field but it was really big! Khoo was slightly off today. He wore his Crocs out o.O Nevermind, he was damn happy about it LOLIMG_3145Anyway how, cause I was camwhoring with Wang Ling (Another tutor but not teaching me =() and hence missed the chance to see my tutor do the tai chi!IMG_3146Khoo did make a video of her exam but I haven’t seen it yet. Will do so some other time. And my tutor got an A! =D Great right?IMG_3149Then we went on to more camwhoring with my tutor’s classmates. Got Korean, Thailand, Vietnamese, Russian and Japanese! People from everywhere! So cool right? Lovely diverse studying environment =)IMG_3159Right after that, we parted to leave for lunch. But changed our mind and joined the tutors to eat lunch at the cafeteria. Each of us got two dishes and shared amongst ourselves =) Super warm feeling!IMG_3155After that we really parted =( They had to attend classes and so we went back “home” to do our work. Essay time. Last night I did quite some paragraphs already.IMG_3170We were all very serious about doing our work but it was nice having good company to do work with. I think I irritated them the most by asking about the pinyins and how to form the sentence =P Chee Sian volunteered to cut us some apples. HIS FIRST EVER TIME! But look at what happened? Tsk tsk… at last Ming Xuan went to help him out HAHA IMG_3175 IMG_3176 IMG_3177At about 4pm, we left for Qi Pu Road. Translate it: Cheap Road. Some sort of like the China Town of Malaysia? But more livelier.IMG_3180 IMG_3184Pictures taken while in the Maglev:IMG_3178IMG_3189 IMG_3194 IMG_3197 When we reached, saw this! They were so tight with the security! o.OIMG_3198 When we got out of the station, we were greeted by a huge crowd and nice smell! Smell of food =) Most were barbecue stuff which does not really interest me even though they smell really good. I wanted more street like food and special ones. Special as in I never tried them ones =P And saw this.IMG_3205 Got four of them for RMB1. Taste wise, nothing to brag about but at least I can say I had it before =P Its “nuo mi gao”. Glutinous rice flour cake (direct translation!) =PIMG_3207Some pictures of the place I walked around today (before reaching Qi Pu Road): IMG_3223 IMG_3229 IMG_3230 IMG_3231 IMG_3232 IMG_3233IMG_3235IMG_3242While looking for that road, we passed by a street which is just like a market selling fruits, vege and meat.    IMG_3250IMG_3251 IMG_3253 IMG_3256IMG_3259 IMG_3261 Khoo bought an ear muff for RMB3. If he had bought earlier, it would have been RMB10! What a big difference!!!IMG_3258What I was more interested was street food! First saw a stall selling all sorts of pau. At first we thought its those pau with soup inside but to our disappointment, its not! =( Instead, loads of oil flow out!IMG_3244This is a vege one that Chee Sian tried. Something different from what I tried which is just basically meat in it.IMG_3247 Been trying a few stalls of smelly to fu. Today tried two different one. The first stall was by a couple and they were super friendly. Better than yesterday ones. IMG_3264 IMG_3265 Then later in the evening we got to near Qi Fu Road, saw another one. I reckon the second one was nicer (this also explains why it is more commercialised)IMG_3312There were quite some sundry shops selling dried foods.IMG_3270Still have not gotten to the Qi Pu Road after such long walking. It was not late yet but the sky already turn dark. WINTER!IMG_3273 IMG_3284 And finally!!! See all those clothes? This is Qi Pu Road! Where they sell clothes, bags etc. But as usual, I am not so interested. It is too packed anyway. But it was a good experience =)IMG_3293 IMG_3298 IMG_3306Then I saw food. Ming Xuan tried this “ji dan bing”. It is fried flour mixture of some egg with added minced pork (upon request).IMG_3315 The other three (Chee Sian especially) refuse street food. [But I am trying to influence him!! Muahahaha) So they went into a small shop…IMG_3322IMG_3317 IMG_3319After the dinner, I saw the sugar cane stall again. Was so tempted to buy and try. So, I got one. Its one WHOLE stick for RMB3 and they will chop them into inch long sticks. I did not eat right there because it would be messy.IMG_3323 On the way back, saw the stall selling “ji dan juan” which is egg rolls.IMG_3347But Ming Xuan felt like we were conned because it totally did not taste like it. Its like corn ones. But I think its alright anyway =)IMG_3338Then Khoo tried the “gung po bing” which was nice too.IMG_3342More pictures of the place when we were walking back =)IMG_3334 IMG_3335 Then from one of the newspaper/magazines stand, Chee Sian and Khoo got the English newspaper. IMG_3336FIRST EVER ENGLISH NEWSPAPER IN SHANGHAI!   IMG_3343 IMG_3344 After that we went back using the train. Got into a wrong line. HAHA… IMG_3346IMG_3355Anyway, we reached safely and walked to the “brandy milk tea” shop. I think its called Coco. Anyway, Von Yi had always wanted to try their milk tea which is really added with some brandy.IMG_3358 So we got there. It was hot but the brandy smell was not strong at all. Then while walking Chee Sian back to the SISU Guesthouse, we got to the “mian bao fang” of the university which is right beside the cafeteria. Got ICE CREAM.IMG_3361Ice cream on a cold windy night. Reliving Paris. I had a whole tub of ice cream during winter day in Paris. Freezing-ly crazy =P And I got diarrhea then. But this time I just had a stick of ice cream, nothing wrong =P

Shanghai Day 7

Officially one week in Shanghai already. I still can’t believe that I am actually in Shanghai. Or, more of the fact that I am coming home to a hotel. Its not a five star luxurious hotel but still quite a decent one. People would say it is three star but I would not know exactly because I *think* I never been in one?

But it was not too bad. Just the bathroom is a bit small. Otherwise its a nice hotel =) Since we pay a cheaper rate than the tourists, we were required to get our own toiletries. That is alright. There is actually a water dispenser. No reason not to remain hydrated. Ok, I still pretty much drink a lot lesser than others.

I have been having fun trying out new food and all. Having good times and building bright memories. I just realised life here can be so hectic that I would not really miss internet much. I have been without internet constantly for a week and I am still surviving. I have been trying to get internet past few days but they could not get it working for me. I returned again just now to ask but they say I have to go back on Monday to get a working account. Here, they do not have wi-fi. So have to get a matching account username and password. Too bad many are broken =( But I consider it rather cheap at RMB80 per month.IMG_3105Anyway, about today. As usual, going to uni late morning to have lunch in cafeteria. =) As always, we will see beggars. Its sad to see them but I would not want to help them and result in them always expecting something from me every time I pass by. Just like in Paris, I was always advised against it. =(IMG_3107I got something from the street instead of eating with the others in the cafeteria. IMG_3108Something like roti canai but the smell just seems different.IMG_3112The taste is a bit similar but with the seasoning and all, its different yet again!IMG_3113Today in tutorial class, we got to do some “jian zi” (paper cuttings).IMG_3119My tutor taught us =) So nice right? Others did not! =P So happy.IMG_3122I love my tutor a lot. And she added us in MSN and force us to type in Chinese with her. This is to help us improve in our Chinese recognising and pinyin skills =) I do not think others got the same chance and great tutor like me and Khoo’s! =DIMG_3123I was to make a snow flake but then because of wrong folding, I got a weird like thing.IMG_3124Christie cut the “xi” word and it turn out nice (for a first timer its a very great job! =D)IMG_3126Then went to have dinner. But tried out “chou dou fu” first. Smelly bean curd.IMG_3128It was totally not smelly. I think this is not authentic but its was not bad. I love the sweet sauce a lot =DIMG_3132Then had dinner at Kui Lin Mi Fen =) so so but the portion was really big.IMG_3130Not much for today. Weekend is here but then we have two essays and one presentation to prepare for =( Argh! Nevermind, will still try to find time to go out =)

Money spent for Day 7:

Total spent = RMB24.80

Still loving the cold weather,

The one who is now having a more painful right knee pain but not complaining =)

Shanghai Day 6

Woke up very early so we all could go to the university to do the student ID card which allows us access into the library and borrow books. Till today, I just have to tell you that every little thing in China needs money. You pay for every little thing! =( Oh well, this is life here I guess?IMG_3082 IMG_3085 After making the ID, which was really quick and with UGLY photo on them, we all went to the cafeteria for food. Very first time have rice in the campus cafeteria…IMG_3087 Because I want to try this… IMG_3089I actually woke up extra early to do my work. All others always complete their work earlier than me. I guess I am just always so lazy =( Do not know how to change. As I am blogging now, they are all doing the homework to be handed in tomorrow.

I am actually very ecstatic because I can blog finally today. I have been trying to but WordPress is actually banned in China. However, just like a miracle to comfort me (you shall know why later), I got access and could post my blog posts =D So that is why you all can see those mass blogging =)

As to why I am sad? Today is the day when we can actually check our Monash results. I actually did not remember till in the evening when Von Yi mentioned about it =( I just knew my results would be bad but I did not know it would be this bad. Anyway how, as long as I passed all, I shall be alright then =(IMG_3102Today basically just like a normal day but we had a larger group of people to have dinner with.IMG_3090IMG_3097We ordered five dishes and had rice =) The rice here is actually like the Australian Calrose rice or the Japanese type of short grain rice used for sushi. I simply love those rice. Been having loads of them. And especially with vinegar!!! Here, its all vinegar and salt that were provided as seasonings rather than soy sauce. And seriously, I am loving vinegar in all my rice HAHAHA… Yummerssss! <3IMG_3096IMG_3098IMG_3099IMG_3100IMG_3101After the dinner, Von Yi, Khoo and I went to Carrefour to get sour milk =) Its actually drinkable yoghurt. My favourite for now. I am all for plain yoghurt so I got the plain one =) I tried out the aleo vera one this time and its almost the same as the plain one. Yummersss! <3IMG_3104Oh! Oh! Did I mention I saw a black PSP dropped along the street? I placed it resting on a tree trunk and left. When we were on our way back from Carrefour, it was gone already. Its either the owner took it back or someone took it away. But I think its most probably some one else who stole it =( I remember losing my camera. The owner must be very sad now =(

Money spent for Day 6:

Total spent = RMB59.40

Its late now,

The one who is yet to do homework when others have already completed them! =(

Shanghai Day 4

This morning, it was planned that I walk over to where Chee Sian stay and get some Chinese hamburger. There are just so many new things that I want to try =P But Chee Sian decided he would come later and asked me not to go meet him. He then come to our place alone and stayed with us till right before lunch.IMG_2770 I was rushing to do my homework LOL. They all finished their work the night before but I always spend my night doing random stuff and blogging. Tsk tsk. I shall try to change that soon =P

We got out in time to have lunch and get to our class =) I had the Chinese hamburger at last.IMG_2772Not too bad.The portion is just right to fill my stomach. =) but recently, after every meal, I crave for sweet things! =SIMG_2774Went to get some egg. They are what the Malaysians call herbal eggs but its sweet here. Quite nice. My second time having it =)IMG_2777The class today was quite boring but interesting in some other ways. We had another teacher coming in to teach us.IMG_2781In the whole course, there would be two teachers. The teacher today can speak more fluent English but she repeated the whole thing we learnt yesterday, which made me more sleepy =(IMG_2780But there was an interesting part where we were to do role plays. I was teamed up with Christie but did not make a good play. However, Von Yi and Khoo made a good one which I recorded partially. Very funny indeed. Ming Xuan teamed with Kay-In and made a decent play but they sat too close to me, hard to take video. But now I kind of regretted as I could just record what they said! =(IMG_2782Oh, this is my room mate, in class, I seat between her and Ming Xuan =) Right in the middle of the class and I always fall asleep! =S Just the class is sometimes too boring. I always get enough sleep but just because the class is in the afternoon, right after lunch some more! Oh well, shall change some habits next time heheIMG_2789And as usual, after class, we have tutorials. We still get back the same “siao lao shi” =) She is super nice and she brought us all to buy the snack she last gave us after class. =)IMG_2788Her friends all came along but then just left one who stayed with us through out. Wang Ling. A very nice girl, totally friendly and can speak very good English =)IMG_2802Not knowing why, after buying, we just decided to have dinner together.IMG_2790It was a good recommendation, just that the soup was too salty. At least its real broth rather than those that seem like made from broth.IMG_2791It is actually quite a popular thing here to have “ma la tang”.IMG_2794IMG_2795Same like the Icefire Drink BBQ where you choose what you want and its made into soup noodle for you =)IMG_2799They brought us to get some fruits too. The first time we went to Carrefour the other day, we wanted to go back to this shop after Carrefour but we walked the wrong way and got lost a little. So glad to come back to this shop again but I did not get any fruits. Shall get some bananas next time =)IMG_2808We then dropped by a shop similar to 711 (did not notice the name) and I got onigiri. My breakfast tomorrow or whenever I am hungry lah =P

Money spent for Day 4:

Total spent = RMB26

Tiring but not so cold today,

The one who is anticipating about tomorrow’s trip to Pudong (Oriental Tower) =D
